Easy Tweed Crochet Purse

Crochet Clutch

Using 2 strands of worsted weight yarn at one time.
I used Caron One Pound 16 oz 100% Acrylic Worsted Wt. 4-ply yarn,  (A) Black & (B) Off-White (gives a Tweed look). I got the 1-lb. skeins on sale @ Michaels's for $6 ea. Yarn is machine washable & dry-able. One Pound skeins are 807 yards for solid colors

Size K hook
Size F hook for. Sl st finishing
Button or large bead for closure ( I used a a /2" dia. Gold with pearl inlay button)
Finished measurements 20" x 10"
Gauge: 11 HDC = 4". 
6-1/2 rows = 4"

Holding 1 strand of ea A & B tog, Ch 56
Rnd 1: HDC in 3rd Ch from hook & in ea Ch across. 54 sts. 
Note: make sure you pick up both color strains throughout.
Rnd 2: Ch 2  (counts as 1st HDC), working in BLO (1 strand of ea color, back 2 strands of Vee) HDC in ea HDC across. 
Note: I pull and stretch piece lengthwise and sidewise every few stitches and check gauge.
Repeat Rnd 2 until piece measures 10". You should be at the end of a 20" side. At end, using smaller hook (size F) continue around 10" side with sc in ea st for finishing at top flap. Sc piece tog along sides.  At center of 10" side, center button, bead or other closure. I was able to pull my button through a hdc in the flap, sp a bittn hole was not required. You may reinforce the button hole witho a sc around buttonhole opening.  Also, you can crochet a loop opposite the buttonhole in the closing flap. 

Fold rectangle in half, with button side inside and flap side exiting 3" beyond buttonside. Pin sides and single crochet around edges of each side, (sew tog to close) and across flap top and 3" sides. At inner edge of top where tied tog, Ch 99 (or multiples of 11 st = 4" to obtain desired length). making sure Ch is not twisted, attach to opposite side at top of inside. Hdc in ea Ch across, tie to side, then continuue across top og button side flap with a sc in ea sr, then sc down remaining side of purse. Finish off.
Finishing: fold the finished rectangle in half, bringing 1st row to meet last row. Use long end of yarn to whipstitch edges tog. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

HDC used difference: draw the yarn through one loop the chain (3 loops on hook), then YO & draw thru 3 rem loops. Makes a wider (longer), more flexible stitch.

HDC used: Make a foundation chain one chain more than the number of half double crochet stitches called for. Skip first 2 chain stitches (will count as the turning chain). Yarn over hook once, insert hook from front to back in the center of the third chain from the hook. 
Yarn over, draw the yarn through one loop the chain (3 loops on hook). YO pull thru remaining 3 loops.

Crochet Coasters/Face Cloths/Dustcloths-Machine Washable & Dryable

1 ball Sugar & Cream yarn or similar 
Size G hook

Finished Size is approximately 3 3/4" diameter

Makes 4+ coasters (I can usually get 6 coasters from ball using a tight crochet)

Ch 4
Rnd 1: 11 dc in 4th Ch from hook. Join with sl st to top of Ch-3. 12. Sts.
Rnd 2: Ch 3. Dc in same sl st, * 2 dc in ea dc. Join with sl st to top of Ch-3. 24 sts.
Rnd 3: Ch 3. Dc in same sl st, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next 2 dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next. Rep from * around ending with dc into next dc, 2 dc into ea of the next 2 dcs. Sl st to top of Ch-3. 39 st.
Rnd4: Ch 3. Dc in same sl st, * dc in next dc, 2dc into next dc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to top of Ch-3. 59 sts. Fasten off.

Baby Burp Cloth/Potholder

I have a photo of the finished product, but I am having problems uploading it to this site.

Materials used: 
approx. 4 ozs of Peaches & Cream cotton yarn
Hook: G
Measurements: 8 1/2" wide by 19" long (8 1/2 " for Potholder)
Row 1: Ch 31, sc in 2nd ch from hook, in each st across.  Ch 1 and turn.
Rows 2: Skip first sc, *in next st, sc-dc in that st, skip next sc. Rep from * across. Sc in the last sc. Ch 2 and turn.
Rows 3: Skip to sc from previous row, sc-dc in that st. Work sc-dc in each sc across.  End with a sc in the last st. Ch 2 and turn.
Rows 4-50: Repeat Row 3.
Row 51: Repeat Row 3 except only ch 1 and turn.
Row 52: Sc in each st across.  Fasten off and weave in all ends.

For Potholder, stop when pattern is approximately 8" square, at one corner, chain 20, then sc in second Ch from hook, sc in remaining Ch until you reach end of Ch. Sc  thru at least 2 loops on Potholder to secure, then taking loose end of Ch, sc end, sc to same corner, securing it to Potholder and making a loop for hanging on cabinet door knob (not required). Then sc in every st around Potholder, fasten off.
